Ashveil Chronicles

★★★★★ 4.7 Editor rating

Ashveil Chronicles is the kind of mobile RPG I keep recommending to friends who think the genre got shallow on phones. You play a cartographer dragged into a much bigger story, and the writing carries real weight. Choices in dialogue actually shift how companions treat you later, which kept me reading instead of skipping.

Combat is turn-based with a timing twist: landing taps at the right moment boosts your attacks, so even easy fights stay engaged. The skill trees are generous, letting you respec without grinding, and that freedom made experimenting fun rather than stressful.

It's not perfect. Some mid-game chapters drag, and the inventory screen could be cleaner. But the music, the hand-drawn regions and a plot that actually lands make Ashveil one of the best stories I've played on a phone this year.
